Molins EXPO - Plzen, Czech Republic 26th - 28th October 2009

Molins' manufacturing facility in Plzen, Czech Republic opened its doors in October for the world preview of the Octave cigarette making machine and the TMQS multiplex laser unit.

The EXPO was an opportunity for a number of invited guests to visit Molins' factory and see, at first hand, the excellent Octave making machine paired with the TMQS laser device for the very first time producing cigarettes with 2, 4 and 6 hole perforations online.

Molins Expo

During the six demonstration sessions, visitors to the EXPO were given a talk on the history of the Plzen factory by Jiri Honomichl the facility's managing director and an overview of the Molins Tobacco Machinery organisation by managing director Mark Aldridge. Stan Boyce, Molins regional sales director and Ralf Glaubitt, managing director, TMQS gave short presentations on the main technical benefits and capabilities of the Octave and Multiplex laser machines.

Guests were able to walk through the Molins Plzen factory and see the Octave production line and other tobacco machinery in manufacture. This production facility has had major investment over the past few years and is key to the future success of Molins.

Guests were led to a special presentation area within the factory to see the Octave and Multiplex laser combination in full production mode. The Molins/TMQS engineering team ran the machine at 8,000cpm for set periods of time with 6 power-ups each day without any problems or delays, proving what a reliable and flexible machine the Octave is.
David Howes the Molins Chief Engineering manager commented - 'I am absolutely delighted with the machine's performance considering this is the first time we have run it with the laser unit - the Octave didn't miss a beat'

The TMQS multiplex laser unit which is only available on the Octave also performed superbly well and actually achieved a world record by producing a cigarette on machine with a dilution of 84% which has never been done before.

'The Multiplex laser unit performed exactly as it should and produced a cigarette with 6 rows of perfectly round holes online for the very first time - I couldn't be happier' commented Ralf Glaubitt, Managing Director of TMQS.

Also present at the EXPO was Cerulean, from Molins scientific division, with their Quantum machine measuring the dilution and quality of the cigarettes as they came off the machine. Visitors were able to see quickly the results for the 2, 4 and six hole perforation as they happened.

TMQS also demonstrated some of the key sub-assemblies and modules they supply for the Octave before the guests were taken for some refreshments back in the presentation room.

The EXPO proved to be an excellent way to get face-to-face with our customers and to listen to their needs for the future success of their businesses. We hope that the insight they gained into the Molins vision for manufacturing and production of tobacco equipment will strengthen our relationships for what will be interesting times in the industry in the future.

Molins and TMQS will also continue to develop the Octave with a considerable investment programme to enhance its performance capabilities and a range of complementary equipment over the coming years.
